Drs. Rabindra and Protima Roy had a vision to build a school for the children of Durgapur, India. After years of sacrifice and saving, they opened Hem Sheela Model School, Drury’s sister school. Today it is impacting the lives of 3,000 elementary, middle and secondary students at two campuses in Durgapur. In 2007, The Protima Child and Woman Development Center (tribal school) was established for first generation learners.
In recent years Drury students have taught at the Hem Sheela School and the tribal school as part of their study abroad program. The experience is transformational and one that our graduates take out to their careers as they assume their places as citizens and leaders in our global community.
Because of the positive experiences of Drury students, the Drury/Hem Sheela Scholars Initiative was born. The goal of the initiative is to build a scholarship endowment that would help support international experience for outstanding Drury undergraduates at Hem Sheela Model School in India. At the same time, it would provide bright Hem Sheela students the opportunity to study at Drury.
When you give to the Drury/ Hem Sheela Scholars Initiative, no matter what size gift, your support will be generously matched by Drury Board of Trustees Chair John Beuerlein and his wife, Crystal (Tinlin) 75/75. That means your gift doubles the impact for Hem Sheela.
