Crest of Excellence Winners, November 2009
Alumni Recipient: Laura Waters '05
The alumni recipient of the Crest of Excellence award for November is Laura Waters. After graduating from Hillcrest High School, she pursued a BA in Biology at Drury, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2005. She then went on to attend the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She graduated this past May. Currently, she is fulfilling her residency by working in pediatrics at Cardinal-Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
Outside of medicine, Laura has shown a great interest in travelling as well as volunteer work. While still at Drury, she studied abroad in Florence the summer between her junior and senior year. She has more recently visited Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Ecuador in order that she could help set up health clinics in these areas with her church’s medical missions team.
Other than traveling, Laura enjoys reading, shoe shopping, baking, yoga, and pottery painting.
Student Recipient: Chris Kaempfe
The student recipient of the Crest of Excellence for November is Chris Kaempfe. Chris is from St. Louis and graduated from Lutheran High School South. Currently a junior at Drury, he is a Management/Marketing major.
As the Interfraternity Council president, he has used his leadership abilities in order to improve communication between Fraternity members and Drury University. His contribution of planning and facilitating this year’s Fraternity Recruitment experience resulted in an increase of men joining Fraternity life and Drury’s highest retention rate for men participating in the recruitment process. He has also served at IFC’s Vice President of Recruitment.
Outside IFC, Chris has served as the Treasurer for Kappa Alpha, as a senator for SGA, as an Orientation Leader, and on Student Judicial Board.

The Crest of Excellence Award honors current students and young alumni who demonstrate excellence in one of the four quadrants in the new Drury Crest:
Oak Leaf - Leadership and Sustainability
Bell - Service and Leadership
Lamp - Knowledge and Enlightenment
Globe - Global Engagement and Education
Nominations will be solicited from Drury staff, faculty, students, and alumni. All nominations will go through, respectively, the Alumni Association and the Dean of Students Office, with final selections made by the President.
Student/student group recipients will receive a t-shirt bearing the Crest, lunch with the President, and a $200.00 savings bond provided by the Bank of Bolivar. Alumni recipients will receive a t-shirt bearing the Crest, a Drury pen, and lunch with the President.
